Obituary

MRS. DOROTHY MARSHALL was born on November 20, 1943, to the late Charlie and Agnes Carter. She received her heavenly wings on Sunday, March 8, in her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Affectionately known as “Dot,” she attended Singleton High School in Morgan, Georgia. In her career, she worked at Bob’s Candies until her retirement.

Dorothy was a faithful member of Eureka M.B. Church, where she joined at an early age. She loved her church and her Eureka family. Over the years, she served in the church choir and remained a devoted member until her health began to decline. She especially enjoyed Sunday School and was always eager to read the devotional scripture. She also took pleasure in participating in virtual Bible study. Dorothy had a warm spirit and lovingly referred to everyone she met as “baby,” often greeting others with her favorite sayings, “Hey baby,” and “Thank you, baby.”

On August 18, 1962, she married the love of her life, Rogers Marshall. Their union was blessed with five beautiful children: Cynthia (Eugene) James of Albany, Georgia; Patricia (Timothy) Thomas of Jacksonville, Florida; Elzie (Trenna) Marshall of Leesburg, Georgia; and Sabrina (Larry) Arceneaux of Jacksonville, Florida, and an infant daughter, Penny, who preceded her in death.

Dorothy was also blessed with five grandchildren whom she adored with all her heart: Tanesha, Malecia (Justin), Miya (Darius), Eugene II, and Elzie II. She was the proud great grandmother of Jozie Marie, whom she always looked forward to seeing and spending time with. She is also survived by her three amazing siblings, Rubye (Julius) Pratt, Janice (Donnell) Carter, and Charles (Brenda) Hayes, and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Carter. Her two brothers, James and Jimmy Carter, preceded her in death.

Dorothy also leaves to cherish her memory: one aunt, Dorothea, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and dear friends. The family would also like to express their gratitude to her devoted caregiver, Tammie Mansfield, who lovingly cared for her over the past four years.
