Eugene Mitchell Smith peacefully transitioned to his new home In Glory on Sunday evening, March 29, 2026. He led an adventurous life, after having been born, February 22, 1943 to Carrie B. Smith( Daniels) and James (Gene) Mitchell in Leesburg, Georgia.

Eugene spent his early years growing up in Leesburg. He was educated at Lee County Training School. Eugene was raised in the church, worshipping with family at the New Piney Grove Baptist Church of Leesburg. Later in life, he was ordained as a Deacon, providing faithful service , until his health challenges prohibited him from doing so. Eugene had also been a member of Union Baptist Church.

Eugene joined the Armed Forces at an early age. His time in the army allowed. him to travel throughout the country as well as see the world. He spent a lot of his time stationed in Germany. After his service in the army, Eugene began a career with the railroad that lasted for more than 20 years.

Eugene was a sharp dresser. He enjoyed nice clothes and nice cars too. His favorite was his Mercedes sports car. He loved beauty in people and in life.

Eugene was an outdoorsman. Throughout his life and especially in his retirement, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed cooking and tasting all the treats obtained from those fishing and hunting trips.

Eugene was pre-deceased by his parents. Carrie (Smith) Daniels and Eugene Mitchell; his siblings, Thomas (Bobby) Smith and Gloria J. Smith.

He is survived by his children; sons, Ricky and Cedric, daughter Courtney Charmon (Russell Dewayne) Zirkle. His grandchildren Destiny Chantaè Deariso and Autumn Lenora Zirkle and three great grandsons. His siblings, Lawrence Daniels Jr. (Sharon), Charles Daniels , Edna Daniels, Marilyn Diane Heard, Addie (Ernest)Lane, and James Daniels. He also survived by extended family members, including special cousins that were raised together as siblings Carol(Ronnie) Hallback, Harold (Gerta) Jackson and Bonnie Washington, an Aunt, Lois Rushin, Paula (Chuck) Mathis, as well as numerous nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

Lastly, he leaves behind his devoted caregivers and lifelong friends, Sabrina Owens- Hayes and Andrea Owens White
