Obituary

The season of life for Jonathan Logan Johnson began in Albany, Georgia on September 16, 1988. He was the beloved son of Janice Crawford Johnson and the late Johnny Lee Johnson.

As he sprouted and grew, he attended Albany Technical Child Development Center and the public schools of Dougherty County, graduating from Dougherty Comprehensive High School in 2007. From a very young age, Jonathan had a curious mind and an extremely strong passion for computers. He wanted to know more and understand better the workings of technology. As his curiosity heightened, he pursued his passion for technology at Albany Technical College in Computer Information Technology. In 2014, he was awarded both the Networking Specialist Diploma and the Networking Specialist Degree. He also received certificates in PC Repair and Network Technician, Home and Small Business Network, and CISCO Certified Entry Network Technician. Jonathan never settled for the surface, but took advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow.

Jonathan’s work ethics developed early as he began his professional career at Teleperformance, providing customer service and technical support in the US; and start-up training and support in the Philippines. In 2012, he joined the ranks of employees at Albany Technical College as a work-study/part-time employee in the Academic Technology Department and became a valued member of the team. His unparalleled skills and expertise enabled him to advance to a full-time position in 2014 as an AV Technical Specialist, where he remained until his demise. Jonathan was a persistent, conscientious worker whose employment was marked by hard work, perseverance, high expectations, and unquestionable integrity. He always looked for optimal solutions to complex problems and was never satisfied with status quo. No matter what the task, he never shied away from a challenge. Daily, he poured himself into his work—always giving his very BEST.

Often referred to as a “Gentle Giant” by colleagues, friends, and family, Jonathan was strong outside yet gentle inside. Tall in stature, big at heart, loving and kind, ready to assist. To say he was a good man would be an understatement. He was an extraordinary man who acted like an ordinary one. Anyone who knew him would agree that he was extremely straight-forward, unpretentious, and strong-willed; but he was also the voice of calm and comfort, humble, and a true gentleman. Jonathan was a loving son, committed brother, awesome uncle, devoted nephew, unforgettable cousin, and loyal friend who embraced life with open arms. He had a servant’s heart and built deep, meaningful relationships that he nurtured and cherished for a lifetime.

Jonathan was an excellent cook and grill master—following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Often, he could be found tag teaming with his sister Dornicia to prepare succulent creations for family gatherings. They thought outside of the box and worked diligently to ensure that their dishes were on the cutting edge of culinary trends. Renowned for his grilled steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausage; smoked ribs and pork butts; and Blackstone prepared breakfasts; Jonathan always prepared more than enough to share with friends and neighbors. Everyone appreciated his skills and thoughtfulness. In addition to grilling, he enjoyed reading, watching movies, and playing video games.

Throughout his life, Jonathan was resilient, resolute, hopeful, and mindful of the presence of the Lord. Even in the midst of significant health challenges, on Monday, May 4, 2026, he boldly declared, “I know that my life is in God’s hand.” Alone in his room with his sister, Jonathan heard a knock at the door that only he could hear; thereby responding, “Come on In—Come on In.” Again, he heard the knock that only he could hear; and again responded, “Come on In—Come on In!” Revelation 3:20 reads: “Behold I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Jonathan persevered courageously until he faced the sunset of his earthly season on May 5, 2026. Although his absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our lives, our hearts are grateful for the 37 extraordinary years that he was here with us. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Dorothy Crawford, Mattie Mae Coley, and Johnny Johnson.

Loving memories will forever remain with his beloved mother, Janice C. Johnson; his sisters, Tamika L. Crawford and Dornicia Johnson; nephews, Byron Johnson and Carter Florence; very special aunt and uncle, Gwendolyn Crawford and Earl Crawford (Ruth Kendall); god-sister, Tamara Spencer; special cousins, Marcus Crawford, Kermit (Stephanie) Crawford, Earl A. Crawford, Cassandra Crawford, Katrina Crawford, Guy Crawford, and Demetrius Crawford; aunts and uncles, A. J. (Lillian) Henderson, Willie Henderson, Lula Lee Davis, and Mary Lee Johnson; two best friends, Alonzo Lockett and Jadd Dawkins, and a host of cousins, Albany Technical College family, and friends.
