Retired Gunnery Sergeant Robert C. Martin was born on July 13, 1942, in Huntington, West Virginia, to the late Miss Ruth Elizabeth Martin, who preceded him in death.

On July 14, 2026, Robert peacefully transitioned from his earthly home to his eternal resting place with his Heavenly Father. His life was a testament to dedication, service, and perseverance.

Robert faithfully served in the United States Marine Corps for over 30 years and 22 days. During his distinguished military career, he received numerous honors and awards, including the Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal with Four Stars, and the Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle). His commitment to duty and country reflected the values of honor, courage, and commitment that defined his life.

Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, Robert continued his service to the community through employment with the Lee County Postal Service, where he worked for more than ten years. Due to declining health, he later retired from postal service, but he remained a man of quiet strength and dignity.

Robert’s life touched many people, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his mother, five sisters, four brothers, three aunts, and one uncle.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: His beloved granddaughter, Hannah Thomas of Albany, GA; his devoted friend and caregiver, Annett Stephens Blakely; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. Though he is no longer with us in body, his legacy of service, kindness, and resilience will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
